The general side effects of clonazepam are dizziness, sedation, impaired coordination, depression, fatigue. Some people experience decreased sex activation while taking clonazepam.

A small group of people develop sinus problems and upper respiratory tract infections while using clonazepam. One of the side effects of clonazepam may be increased salivation. This may cause some people to start coughing while taking clonazepam. Clonazepam can also cause anorexia and dry mouth. It can cause either constipation or diarrhea. There are a few reports of clonazepam causing menstrual irregularities or blurred vision. Not so strong side effects are: drowsiness, dizziness, spinning sensation, problems in memory, muscle weakness, slurred speech, sore gums, runny or stuffy nose, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, headache, nervous, insomnia.

Clonazepam should never be used by people who have had an allergic reaction to it. People with severe liver disease or narrow-angle glaucoma should not take clonazepam too. People who have kidney disease may need to take a impaired dosage of the drug. Spittle production may increase while taking clonazepam. Because of this, people with an impaired gag reflex or respiratory disease should use clonazepam with close physician supervision. Women who are pregnant should not use clonazepam, because it may harm the developing baby.

So clonazepam is a nervous system depressant, it should not be taken with other depressants, such as sleeping pills, alcohol, or tranquilizers. People taking clonazepam may feel unusually drowsy and mentally sluggish especially when they first start taking the drug. It's better if they do not drive, operate dangerous machinery, or engage in hazardous activities that require mental alertness until they see how clonazepam influence them. This strong sedation usually goes away after a short time on the drug. People who have underlying depression have be closely monitored while taking clonazepam, especially if they are at risk for suicide.
